Rs. 15 crore sanctioned for purchase of equipment of 15 ITIs

A new government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) was declared open at Manikandam union in Tiruchi district on Friday.
The ITI will temporarily function from the community centre at Soorakudipatti until permanent buildings are constructed.
It was inaugurated by P.Mohan, Minister for Rural Industries and Labour, in the presence of T.P.Poonachi, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries, R.Manoharan, Government Chief Whip, K.S.Palanisami, Collector, and other officials.
Mr.Mohan said former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had ordered the opening of the ITI at Manikandam in the Srirangam Assembly constituency at a cost of Rs.3.70 crore.
Over the past three years, 10 government ITIs have been opened and during the current financial year ITIs are being opened at Manikandam, Chinna Salem, Kadaiyanallur, Kattumannarkovil and Udumalaipettai.
Students at the government ITIs were provided free education and other benefits. The State government has sanctioned Rs.15 crore for purchase of equipment for 15 ITIs and a new building for the Cuddalore ITI was being built at a cost of Rs.2.30 crore. Orders have been issued for construction of new buildings for the ITIs in Karur and Namakkal.
The government has also ordered introduction of English language learning labs in all government ITIs.
Mr.Mohan said the government has lifted the age bar for candidates being admitted to the government women’s ITIs and allotted Rs.50 crore for purchase of latest equipment for the institutes. This would help churn out well-qualified workforce, he said.
