Revenue department identifying spots for housing various offices of Tiruverumbur taluk

Initiatives taken by Tiruverumbur Taluk Development Committee seem to have galvanized the Revenue department into identifying the ideal spots for housing various offices befitting the taluk status granted to the town more than two years back.
Revenue department officials are learnt to be in favour of housing the taluk office on a two-acre plot in the sprawling campus of Industrial Training Institute. The taluk office currently functions from a portion of the buildings in the Tiruverumbur Panchayat Union office.
After Tiruverumbur was accorded the taluk status, three other offices were started in rented buildings: a sub-treasury, a sub-registrar office and the unit office of the Regional Transport Office. Alongside housing these offices in permanent buildings, there is also a compelling need to start a taluk hospital, a taluk police station, a fire station, an additional munsif court and a Judicial Magistrate court.
Recently, the Committee showed to the officials some locations considered ideal from public perspective for these offices. Since the town is congested and lacks adequate space for the new offices, the locations under consideration are at some distance. The space in the office of Revenue Inspector was shown for the office Sub-Treasury.
Though a building is coming up in Win Nagar for housing the office of sub-registrar, the public consider that this facility which, they say, has no proper bus connectivity, could also be shifted to new location for sub-treasury, according to the Coordinator of the Committee Anbazhagan. A two-acre plot near the Navalpattu IT Park was proposed for a full-fledged Regional Transport Office. The office now functions from a defunct cinema theatre building with enormous space constraints.
The stretch between Ariyalmangalam and Thuvakudi being accident prone, the taluk hospital with trauma care section and a mortuary is a vital need. Most often, accident victims die as considerable time is taken to shift to hospitals in the city, Mr. Anbazhagan said, adding that the space available in the primary health centre at VOC Nagar along Koothaipar road was suggested by the committee for the taluk hospital.
Though Tiruverumbur is now within the Corporation limits, the existing police station comes under the district rural police.
The sparse strength of the Tiruverumbur police station does not befit the requirement of the town that has witnessed exponential growth over the last decade with several localities expanding by the day.
There has been a corresponding rise in crimes and a taluk police station with full complement of personnel for crime and traffic, and law and order was necessary, Mr. Anbazhagan emphasised.
In case of major fires, the public in the town have to depend on the only fire station at Navalpattu, about 10 kilometres away and hence there must be another fire station for the town.
There was scope for housing the fire station, the police station, and the court buildings in a 4.5 acre plot opposite to Sri Erumbeeswarar Temple under the ownership of the HR and CE Department, the Committee members say.
